Privacy policy

How I handle your data.

Last updated:

The short version: I collect what you type into the contact form and use it only to reply to you, I only measure how the site is used if you say yes to cookies, and I never sell anything. The details are below.

Data controller

Nicklaz Lentz is the data controller for nicklazlentz.com. If you have questions about this policy or about your data, write to contact@nicklazlentz.com.

What data I collect

This site has no login and no user accounts. Personal data is collected in three places: what you choose to submit through the contact form (your name and e-mail address, and optionally your company, current website, service interest, budget range and message), anonymous usage statistics if you accept cookies, and a star rating if you leave one.

For security and operations, the server may briefly register technical information such as your IP address - for example to limit spam submissions. This information is not used to identify you.

Why I collect it

I use your information for one thing: reading and answering your enquiry, and discussing a potential collaboration with you. I do not send marketing e-mails or newsletters, and your details are never used for anything else.

Legal basis

Processing is based on the consent you give when submitting the contact form (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)) and on my legitimate interest in responding to business enquiries (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

Sharing and data processors

Your data is never sold, and never shared with third parties for marketing. The website runs on a hosting provider that processes data on my behalf as a data processor, solely for operating the site.

How long I keep it

Enquiry data is kept for up to 12 months after our last contact, and is then deleted. You can ask me to delete it earlier at any time.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can at any time request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. You can also withdraw your consent, restrict processing, or request data portability - just write to contact@nicklazlentz.com.

If you believe your data is being handled incorrectly, you can complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet).

Free draft

If you use the free draft, the description you type is sent to Google (Gemini) to generate the draft, and the result is shown only in your browser. I don't store the description or the draft on my side. A cookie and a local setting remember that the free draft has been used, so it can be shown to you again. Photos in a draft are loaded from Pexels (images.pexels.com), which, like any site an image is loaded from, sees your IP address.

Usage statistics

If you accept cookies, the site uses PostHog (EU cloud, servers in Frankfurt) to see how it is used: which pages and projects are viewed, what is clicked, and anonymous recordings of sessions with everything you type hidden. Occasionally a short survey may ask what you think of the site. This is based on your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), and nothing is measured if you choose "Only necessary". You can change your choice at any time under "Cookie settings" in the footer.

Star ratings

If you leave a star rating, the rating is stored together with your device type (for example "iPhone · Safari") and a random device id kept in a cookie. To stop the same device voting more than once, a one-way hash of your IP address, browser and language is stored with it - the IP address itself is not stored. Voting again from the same device changes your rating instead of adding a new one.

Christmas game

If you save a score in the Christmas game, the name you type and your score are stored and shown publicly on the leaderboard, together with the device id from the device cookie described above, so each device has one entry. Use a nickname if you'd rather not show your name. Your best score is also kept in your browser. Write to me and I'll remove an entry.

Cookies and local storage

Without your consent the site sets no tracking cookies. Stored in your browser are your light/dark theme choice and your cookie choice; if you use the free draft, a cookie and a local copy of your draft so it isn't generated twice; and if you leave a star rating, a device cookie so your rating can be changed rather than repeated. Only if you accept cookies does PostHog set its own cookies to measure how the site is used.
